AVIF versus JPG

AVIF is a modern image format designed for strong compression and web delivery. JPG is older and usually larger, but it is supported by a much wider range of editors, forms, devices, and legacy systems.

This converter keeps the original pixel dimensions and lets JPEG quality control the tradeoff between file size and visual fidelity.

Privacy and browser compatibility

The conversion uses the browser's built-in image decoder and Canvas encoder. The source file is not sent to WebToolDock. AVIF support varies by browser version, so a current browser is required.

JPEG has no alpha channel. Any transparent pixels in the AVIF are composited onto white before the JPG is created.

Frequently Asked

AVIF to JPG Converter – Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions, edge-cases, and mathematical explanations.

How do I convert AVIF to JPG?

Choose an AVIF file, set JPEG quality, select Convert to JPG, then download the browser-generated JPEG.

Is the AVIF uploaded?

No. The browser decodes the AVIF and encodes the JPEG locally on your device.

Why might an AVIF fail to open?

Conversion depends on the browser AVIF decoder. Use a current browser version if the file cannot be decoded.

What happens to transparency?

JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are placed on a white background.

Which JPEG quality should I choose?

A quality around 85–90% is a useful starting point. Lower quality makes a smaller file but can introduce visible artifacts.
